Baked hake with alioli. A really easy recipe

There can’t be a healthier and simpler dish to make.    This baked hake is very easy to make. Perhaps the most difficult part is preparing the alioli.  But of course without it, there will be something missing from your dish.  In this recipe, we’re going to see on the one hand, how to prepare the hake and on the other, the alioli.  So, are you on for it?

Ingredients for 4 people

  • 4 fillets of hake
  • 4 potatoes
  • 3 onions (if you like them a lot, add as many as you want)
  • Salt
  • Alioli

How to prepare natural alioli

  • Garlic
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 egg yolk
  • Salt

Take a clean bowl.  Before, crush the garlic and put it into the bowl. Then, add the salt and the egg.  Mix it all together in the pestle and mortar.  You can also use a hand-held beater.  The most expert cooks also use an electric beater.  Without stopping beating, gradually add the oil and don’t stop beating until you have the correct texture.

Be very careful with the garlic!!  They don’t all have the same taste.  If you want a mild alioli, you should reduce the quantity. If you want it to be sharp, then you know what to do, add a lot.

 Preparing the hake

  • You have to cut up the potatoes and onions into thick slices if you’re going to put them into the oven directly. You can cut them up more finely but then brown them a bit first in a frying pan.
  • Put these ingredients onto an oven tray and add the hake fillets.  Add salt.
  • Now it’s just a case of putting the tray into the oven.  Before, spread the alioli that you’ve made yourself on top of the hake fillets.  Cover the fish well.
  • There’s little more to it. Cook at a temperature of 180º and it’ll be ready in only 10 minutes.

Have you seen how easy it is? This is a main dish which is going to be really successful because the alioli is going to give the hake an exotic flavour at the same time as being really succulent.

If you prepare a good salad dressed with extra virgin olive oil, you’ve got a meal fit for a king.

Besides being a fantastic meal and being so easy to prepare, it’s a very cheap dish.  In fact, it’s going to take you longer to prepare the alioli than the fish.

Alioli is one of the most popular sauces in Spanish cuisine.  We know that there are many brands of ready-prepared foods which can offer you it at a good price.  But the tastiest one -and the most satisfactory – is  your own.

It’s normal for the alioli to turn the first times you make it.  You’ve got to have a certain amount of experience to achieve the desired texture.  But don’t give up trying.  Once you’ve got the knack, you’ll not stop making it.

Don’t forget to use the best extra virgin olive oil in the world because it’s also going to play a vital role in the end product.
